printer requesting A4 paper when Letter is default

This need to be F(#*(*@'ing fixed!!!

I have 6 machines here, all Kubuntu and all trying to print to a laser printer with Letter loaded and it keeps trying to print A4... What the FCSK is A4 anyway

This has been a problem for weeks now and there has to be a solution or we are back to Windows where we can print normaly...

Someone please tell me how to fix this once and for all!!!!

How are you attempting to configure the printers? Are you using CUPS ( http://localhost:631/ )? Are you a member of the lpadmin group?

A4 is the standard paper size used everywhere in the world except the good ol USA

Hey there...

In cups, its configured as letter. It works in GTK apps, but not KDE apps. I found another thread where someone said it was a bug in QT and recommended an upgrade, but never told me where to get or how to upgrade QT.

Any thoughts?

OK here are some more spicifics...

The printer prints fine if its just plane text, but if I try to print HTML, images, or the like, then it requests A4 paper..

Sounds like it is firefox. Go into about:config, filter for A4 and change the default to letter. BTW, this is OS independent.

From Firefox, Thunderbird, and Gimp (With Gutenprint), etc (GTK apps), it prints without issue every time.

If I try to print from kmail, gwenview, or any KDE app really, it asks me to put in A4 paper. So its not Firefox; it seems like its KDE/QT specific.

you been to systemsettings and searched for the term paper? puts you into regional & language - check that

Yeah, I checked there just now and it set to Letter. I even added US English to the Langueges settings and rebooted. Still defailts to A4.

I have seen a KDE bug and sent the qt - bug list an e-mail about this. This is starting to be a real show-stopper for my office. We are using GTK apps, so everyone is like "Just use Gnome"... LOL
