No support for audio cards I believe new install of Karmic on Gateway NV52

    Hello,

I am rather new to this here Kubuntu situation only installed it on one other PC besides this here Gateway laptop working on and it was the Jaunty Jackalope on it. Well someone messed up a friend of mines Gateway NV52 real bad that had Vista on it and when I got it back operating system not being read etc... files missing on and on and on.

Didn't have Vista install disc and boot repair disc wouldn't even work on it anymore so decided to format and install Karmic. It took three format and installs to install it on this Gateway NV52. But all seems to be AOK now. It told me the HDD was possibly bad the first two times.

My question in this post in this section though is after install of Karmic the only thing that seems to be wrong it something about audio cards or actually a couple of devices not being supported by Kubuntu it seems or something like that. I have tried to recreate the situation as in it telling me what they were and it not giving me the info anymore so I can post exactly what the two devices were and cant find any device manager etc... to see them.

I also would like to see the HDD and free space etc... and scan it for errs if at all possible. Gateway NV52 has these devices for sure

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 QL-64
    320 GB HDD
    4 GB RAM
    DVD Super Multi DL drive
    Webcam
    Multi-in-1 card reader
    ATI RADEON Graphics
Dolby Sound Room "doesn't have details as to this"

I also need program to display Webcam and be able to record vid and take snap shots etc... with it, please. Opened it up with Kopete, it is working but none of that can be done with Kopete, or I couldn't figure out how to do it and image is to small for sure.

I appreciate all of the assistance, I really do. You all helped me out greatly on that other project I undertook. Still not finished there but am at a point to hold off as am busy and this needs to be done first.

I have many many other questions and am needing much assistance in acquiring programs needed for this machine too but will post them in sections for those situations.

Now Amarok just Crashed and wouldn't send info as to crash as needed better software to better report the bug.

    Thank you.

Dude, here is a link that you are going to love: http://kubuntuguide.org/Karmic

Also, Sometimes when the OS is brand new or it is just released there are some bugs that are fixed later on. I know it's been a while but did you try now?

I have the same issue with my laptop. Has almost the same specs as the Gateway but it is a Turion X2 HP. I have found some useful tips in editing the driver code. However when I changed the code, my sound worked, but then my wireless stopped working. I recreated the problem and, same thing happened. When I find the site that had the code, I'll post it (history was clear). I have found that, by default, at least with 9.10, that the headphone setting is muted when Kubuntu is installed. I just unclicked mute, and my headphone jack puts out sound, but not the internal speakers.
