AC Adapter state not being detected

Acer Aspire 5532 laptop with fresh install of Karmic, all APM/ACPI features are working and no other hardware problems except the AC Adapter state is only detected on boot or when resuming form suspend. If it is unplugged or plugged while running the status does not update though whether the battery is being charged or discharged does.

I have no idea how to proceed if anyone has any idea or needs me to post additional info please let me know.

Re: AC Adapter state not being detected

after doing some reading decided to attempt the solution used here http://forum.sabayonlinux.org/viewto...p?f=56&t=15873

    running
    Code:
    cat /proc/acpi/ac_adapter/ACAD/state
in konsole shows the currrent ac adapter status but powerdevil seems unaware of a change. Attempted the solution anyway and after manual restart of acpid service followed by a reboot still no change.

Re: AC Adapter state not being detected

For want of something to do I have trying different combination of apm and acpi in the grub boot options. A few times my system seemed to boot faster or slower but still had the problem of AC adapter state change not being reported.

edited to add: after reading about power related issues on other Acer laptops/net-books tried blacklisting acer-wmi but there was no change
