Monitor resolution 1690X1080 cannot be set

I have a new LG 22" Monitor. When I first plugged it in, I was (briefly) able to set the screen resolution to the optimum. However, now the maximum resolution available to me in the System Settings > Display is only 1450X1050. There is no setting available to me that has the correct 16:9 aspect ratio.

I think that I should have proprietary nvidia drivers, but I don't know how to get them.

Make sure you have nvidia-drivers enabled first. System>hardware-drivers. Enable driver if need be-reboot. Under settings you should see Nvidia-settings you should be able to pick your correct resolution there.

the best way for you to install the restricted driver for you nvidia card is to do the following...

        1. open konsole and install jockey-gtk (cause jockey-qt don't work ever from my exp)
sudo apt-get install jockey-gtk
2.launch jockey-gtk as root
kdesudo jockey-gtk
3. select your driver then press activate (this can take a few min) when its finished restart your comptuer and enjoy the nvidia driver.
        4. Change the config if needed.
kdesudo nvidia-settings
