Mouse issues on Macbook Pro 2,1

Installed on Macbook Pro 2,1 relatively easily. However, the mouse is ballistic. If I have Konsole open, attempting to do a two finger click (right click) makes Konsole scoll haphazardly. Similarly, if I have a few virtual desktops, attempting to right click on the back ground jumps from desktop to desktop. If I just have one desktop, the note widget launches.

This happens even if I boot off the Kubuntu CD without any changes.
However, if I boot off the Ubuntu CD it works as expected. However, I don't want the Gnome desktop.

Is the issue with KDE? I assume the baselines are the same on the two distros and the only difference is the desktop? Can anyone give any pointers where to look? I've tried disabling all shortcuts etc.

The other action is to install Ubuntu and then KDE as a desktop and see if that resolves the issue but I'm not hopeful.

Would be grateful for any pointers.

EDIT: Installed KDE as a desktop after Ubuntu and the issue is occurs. Looks like an issue with KDE
