audio notifications problem on asus 900A

KUBUNTU works perfectly out of thebox, but for some reason no audio for system/prgram notifications. audio player and youtube work fine. what could be? the sound card is detected

System Settings > Notifications

On the "Event Source" drop-down window, start adding the events for which you want a notification to happen. With an event hightlighted, in the bottom part set it to either show a visual notification, or play a sound (or both). On the sound window, set which sound you want to hear. etc. etc.
