ide drive produces only read errors

Hello everybody,

i have no clue here:

I updated my older PC with four normal ide-plugs to karmic.

Now I still can mount any dvd-disc on with my dvd-drive, but I only get read errors.

I solved this problem on jaunty by switching to an older kernel (2.6.24), 2.6.28 shows the same behaviour. No I see no option to downgrade the kernel in karmic and I have no clue anymore.

Any help appreciated (link to another posting, keywords for google....)

I would run this:

sudo lshw -html > lshw.html && konqueror lshw.html

And see exactly what device you have, maybe google "karmic" and the name of the device as it shows in lshw. You may find a solution. Another thing is to get into the BIOS and see if you can do something from there (look for settings that seem related to IDE devices and play with them).
