I have a USB faxmodem, and several usb-to-serial cables. For the sake of example, we'll use the faxmodem. When I plug it in, an entry appears for ttyACM0 in /dev, just like it is supposed to. But when I try to access the device, either through minicom or efax, I get an error message saying the device is locked or busy. There seems to be no way I can communicate with the device. This problem is also occurring with usb-to-serial cables, on ttyUSB0. External USB hard disks and scanner work OK.
lsusb shows the devices, and they are mapping to /dev/ttyACM0 or ttyUSB0 or whatever in dmesg.
The thing is, using exactly the same items and software, they work fine in Jaunty.
So something is interfering with access to the usb devices in karmic.
Any ideas where to start hacking at this?
