    Huawei E160 modem

anyone using Huawei E160 usb modem? seems to work fine with ubuntu/gnome but in Kubuntu Karmic/KDE its not working.

Kubuntu was able to detect the device but when I wvdialconf there seems to be errors finding the modem.

    Yeah, I know the problem.

What I did was to install network-manager-gnome and the provider list from synaptic, but kpackagekit should work or do:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install network-manager-gnome
the provider list will be installed as well.

Then delete any broadband mobile profiles you may have in knetwork manager applet and reboot.

Stick in your modem and you should get the provider list.
Find your country / provider and then edit your broadband mobile profile according to your needs.

    Hope this helps

I know it is gnome, but it is the only elegant one I have found at least until KDE gets its act together.

after so many tries last night i was able to detect it using wvdialconf and eventually used it using wvdial to connect...

but this morning it won't work again...

thanks for the tip... hope a kernel upgrade or something fix this soon.
