    hi

    I just install the final release of kubuntu (Karmic Koala) and any of my usb storage devices (such as a pendrive and a ipod touch) get listed in the dolphin places or even is recognized.

    i've run tail -f /var/log/messages and get this output:

    Code:

    edit:
    ---

    here is my fstab:

    Code:
    proc      /proc      proc  defaults    0    0
    # / was on /dev/sda1 during installation
    UUID=fc817990-30b0-4051-9895-cb01604e037b /        ext4  errors=remount-ro 0    1
    # swap was on /dev/sda5 during installation
    UUID=88a62d88-7155-41a0-b6d4-b0c5a322aa92 none      swap  sw       0    0
    /dev/scd0    /media/cdrom0  udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0    0
    I can mount the device using $mount /dev/sdb1 /media/sdb1
    but any notification is displayed
    ---

    any solutions for this?

    thanks in advance for any idea

    By default, the Device Notifier Widget is not installed. Just select if for installation, either from the main Cashew in the upper right corner, or by right-clicking on a blank space on the panel.

      it is a hal problem.

      I've installed ubuntu, and then, kubuntu desktop. I plug my USB (the Device Notifier was installed) and nothing happens. Then i've stopped hal and all my devices worked just fine.

      thanks for the reply

        Re: USB hal mount problems

        I resolved my issue with USB sticks not mounting by going to user management and modifying my user account to make sure it had appropriate privileges (I checked all the privileges that were unchecked) and that it was part of appropriate groups (I checked "user"). After exiting and restarting kde, the device notifier kicks in when I plug in a USB stick and the USB stick shows up in Dolphin.

          How do you do that? because maybe it relates to my problem...

            Not sure what you're asking here, but if you're asking about my post, then:

            "System settings" menu, "advanced" tab, user management is the last icon.

            In User Management, highlight your user account, click "modify" - the dialogue box that pops up has 3 tabs - "privileges and groups" is one of the tabs.
