I've read through a bunch of posts, and am left more confused than before.
> Dell Inspiron 5100. Mobility Radeon 5100 (1400 X 1050 rez).
I upgraded the day Karmic was available. Of course, you know what happened... video went straight to hell. The task bar is useless, as are any decoration bars in any windows, drop-downs, etc.
This is not a good thing.
Is there any way to get Karmic working as anything other than an annoyance with this laptop? Any 'unsupported' driver or app that can be used to get me back to where I was with 9.04? Any settings that can/should be changed to get it to work?
I don't really care about desktop effects, don't need 'em. All I want is a Linux laptop that can do basic laptopy things... like not having a desktop that would make Salvador Dali wretch... Web browsing, text editing, maybe a video every now and then. But no boing-boing desktop effects, no zoom-zoom windows, etc.
Do I have a choice other than re-loading 9.04 or going to another distro? Unfortunately, a new laptop isn't a possibility either.
Thanks in advance,
Joe Mirando
