Try it out. That's the whole purpose of a LiveCD.

It is quite possible that immediately after installation, you'll have no gui. I think that's #2 on my FAQs.

        But, it's very recoverable.

Well, if I may ask how will one be able to do that?

On the other hand, I'm currently using Kubuntu Hardy heron. Do u think it is worth the try to install this version.
I know it is only in beta form, and I know that there is still alot of bugs in it.

Regarding Hardy, I also started using it in when it was in beta form.

          What will u recomend?

Probably the fastest way would be to boot (immediately after installation) into Recovery Mode, and run the "Fix X" routine, and then reboot and login normally.

Once you're in a GUI, then you can go to System>Hardware Drivers and enable the Nvidia driver.

If Hardy Heron is working for you, I wouldn't be in a rush to install Karmic before it is released. There are still things breaking fairly frequently, and it doesn't sound like you are a lover of the CLI.

I dont have a problem using the CLI, but I'm not using it enough to remember all the commands. But I do prefer using the GUI.

In any case thanx for the advice, is there a site that I can go to in the mean time to learn more about th new way things are being done in karmic? ie plasma screen/desktop/windows, it is quite confusing to me. I have read quite a bit on the internet about this and I must say it is bending my mind.....

Here's a thought -- download a daily build ISO file and burn yourself a Karmic Live CD:

                http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/daily-live/current/

Play with the Live CD -- do the System>Hardware Drivers thing and see if it works correctly for your Nvidia card. If it works OK and you like it, you might decide to install it. If it's a disaster, then you've still got your trusty Hardy system to use.

I am using the Geforce 7 series on my laptop, 7600 go nvidia graphics card. But you will have problems if you are using a Intel 95M northbridge as well with over 3Gb of RAM, because the linux kernel PCI IOMEM allocates memory and cannot reference over 3GB in 256M chunks correctly. Waiting on a PCI IOMEM kernel upgrade.

But if you are using a 7 series with less than 3GB you will be fine
