    Input output error

    Hi
I had one problem. i usually browse through mobile broadband. And when i heavily loaded
it starts hanging. As soon as it hang, it shows some input output error in syslog.
And not even able to shutdown or reboot. It is continuously showing one by one some numbers followed by IO error,

To me, that looks like a hardware problem. But what do you mean "when i heavily loaded"?

            Re: Input output error

You should normally be able to do those things on a reasonably modern computer with 1Gb (or more) of ram. Hanging can be caused by some bug or other, but in your case it would seem that there is a problem with your hard drive. This is not likely a software problem and it needs to be looked at before your data gets corrupted - if it isn't already, as Telengard suggested.

Sda is your first hard drive. Hopefully someone here can give some instruction on how to scan for defects.

Edit: It looks like it is the same sector every time (sector 230749) but that is how it starts when a drive becomes worn. In my experience you will see more sectors after a while.

              Re: Input output error

I/O errors may be an indication of impending hard disk failure, so back-up your important data (as already suggested) before it's too late. And do check that the cables for the hard disk are tightly connected (they may loosen over time, which can also cause I/O errors)

I'm not a hard drive expert, but both of those look way out of whack, compared to anything I've seen on a good drive.
