    Hypermail won't read maildir (SOLVED)

Hypermail won't read the ~/Mail/inbox. There are e-mail files there, but it doesn't see them. Any ideas? I've looked at permissions and don't see anything wrong. Inbox is drwx------, mail files are -rw-------. Any ideas?

    Hi Ole,

Perhaps there is a mismatch in mail format (between what the app expects and what it gets)?

Thanks lmilano. Yes, that turns out to be the problem. We just figured it out. Normally, a plugin for Claws Mail looks after feeding hypermail the right format. What has happened is that Claws is out of sync with it's plugins so people who did updates can't use it until that gets fixed. It's a known bug, but it took us a day's work to discover that!

That's OK. It probably wouldn't have helped. I'm aware what the different mail formats look like and soon after posting this discovered that Hypermail only reads mbox and not maildir. However, the Clawsmail bug took a bit of research.

The solution was to purge all of Claws and it's plugins, then add the 3rd party repositories from Launchpad.net, then reinstall the new (and correct) versions. Now Claws will export mail as mbox so that Hypermail can deal with it and we're happy again!

To clarify, in case someone else comes across this. The problem of the Claus mail plugin not working (and hence the Hypermail problem) started with an update after which the plugin versions became out of sync in the Kubuntu repositories. Who knows how that could have happened, but the bug is known and will eventually get fixed. I guess this is a good example of why one might want to keep an eye on what actually gets updated on one's system.
