    Preview wmf clipart

I have a CD containing clipart images in wmf format. My trusty old Ubuntu 6.06 installation shows previews/thumbnails of these files in Nautilus.

However, my Kubuntu 9.04 PC does not show previews in either Dolphin or Konqueror. Preview has been selected and works with jpg files.

libwmf is installed and the files open up in Gimp correctly.

Any ideas please on how to configure Dolphin/Konqueror to show these previews?

    How the thumbnailing works

    /usr/include/kio/thumbcreator.h
    * This is the baseclass for "thumbnail-plugins" in KDE. Using the class
    * KIO::PreviewJob allows you to generate small images (thumbnails)
    * for any kind of file, where a "ThumbCreator" is available. Have a look
    * at kdebase/kioslave/thumbnail/ for existing ThumbCreators...
If there is a thumbnailer for the KDE(4) -> all KDE apps can show them.

    BUT

By my knowledge there is not a thumbnailer for the KDE4/wmf.

For the KDE 3.5 > WMF-Thumbnail-Plugin for Konqueror
    Depends on: KDE 3.5.x

    Description:
Plugin for Konqueror to preview WMF-Files as Thumbnails. Tested with KDE 3.1 to 3.3.

Thanks for the info Rog131. It looks like I won't get very far with this one using KDE4.

I don't use clipart very often so this is not really a problem. However, as Nautilus seems to preview wmf files "out of the box" I would guess KDE may eventually incorporate this as well.

The sooner all these proprietory formats disappear the better.
