Issue with sudo kate after last update

    Hello,

Yesterday I updated one of the machines I'm using with Kubuntu 9.04 and when I tried to do a

    Code:
    sudo kate
It works but an Xmessage windows appear with the following message:

Could not start ksmserver. Check your installation.

The problem is that if I try to close the xmessage window or if I click on the "okay" button X server restarts without notification and brings me directly to the login screen.

Today I updated my other laptop and the same thing happens.

Is this related to the updated packages? and if so, how can I revert my last update?

Graphical applications in KDE should be started with kdesudo, not sudo - like this:

    kdesudo kate

I just tried it on my machine and it ran with no errors. Give it a try
we see things not as they are, but as we are.

Indeed, kdesudo kate worked without errors.

I just wonder why I have always used sudo kate since 8.04, including 9.04 and it worked until yesterday when I updated the packages.

      Thanks anyway!
