I have an windows XP client set up as a virtual machine in kubuntu. Unfortunately for school I have to use a 2 programs that have to be run in XP.
I have installed and XP SP3 runs fine for about 30-60 minutes before my the host and guest freeze up. I have to use a long power button push to halt my system and reboot... which is not good.
I am curious if anybody has any ideas why this is happening or where else i can go to troubleshoot.
I am running kvm: QEMU PC emulator version 0.9.1 (kvm-84)
kernel: 2.6.28-15-generic
I am also running dnsmasq and a tap interface. Dnsmasq listens on the tap and dishes out ip addresses to my virtual machines which use the tap as a gateway. I am using vde2 as an virtual network device on my virtualmachines to connect to the tap. This way I can get full network access to the virtual machine.
I call my kvm with this command:
vdeq kvm -full-screen -vga std -usb -hda /vms/xp.img -boot c -net nic -net vde -m 2048
