    Firefox 3-5, Shiretoko or whatever

Whenever I run Firefox 3-5--either as the Shiretoko in the repository or as the download from Mozilla--it's subject to lockups. The menus may stop working, even if the browser is still loading pages. Or type-ahead on URL's will stop working. This is erratic and I don't know what prompts it. Anyone else seeing this? Anyone know how to stop it?

I won't even say anything about getting an official Ubuntu/Kubuntu version of Firefox 3-5. How many months has it been now?

I haven't seen the hesitation or lockups, but my hardware is pretty beefy.

Once you nuke the apt-xapian thing, maybe you could install and run htop while running your browser -- there must be some cause of congestion at the point where the browser hesitates.

This isn't related to CPU consumption. It doesn't give any sign of straining whatsoever. The menus just cease to work. Pages keep loading and I can type in a URL, but get no type-ahead. It doesn't happen with Firefox 3.0 or Chrome. It's a Firefox 3-5 thing.

After much of reading it comes up that (to put it in my normal word) 3.5 it still based partially on 3.1.
        Very good tutorial is here:

        http://www.ubuntusolutions.org/2009/...tu-jaunty.html

Shows that repos need to be updated because version which is there isn't right.
        I hope that link helps - I didn't make it to 3.5 - i went back to 3.1

        Peace of mind

Thanks, I went to the page you recommended and that fix seems to be working.
