K3b will not burn Data DVD.

ever had this problem before, so I will give as much information as possible. I am trying to make a data DVD of several video files. I can burn them to CD no problem, but not DVD. I do not see anything in the logs resembling an error message either.

Kubuntu 9.04
KDE 4.3.0.0

I have two LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1H. /dev/sr0 & /dev/sr1

I have tried several different files to make sure that it was my source for some reason. Also, I have gone through a few DVD's. I have to be honest, I wouldn't understand the log unless it yelled at me what was wrong. Can anyone tell me what is going on?

well I know I'v seen that befor........I just dont remember if or how I got around it

did K3b ask you if it should use UDF? ............if so try NO.

and try a slower speed .....looks like you were burning at 16x go down to 8 or even 4x.

I'll try to burn a large file later and see what happens ......if I can reproduse the error.

IF you can split the file down to smaller pices under 2 Gig you mite avoid the use of UDF and the error but realey you shouldent half to in therey

I apprecate the reply, however I have not been able to test your idea's as of yet. I had an update notification this morning and now I cannot log into any users. So once I figure that out, I will try this solution.

That has been reported as a bug, but not yet confirmed.

I doubt it is a bug because file sizes greater than 2GB have been supported by the kernel since 2.4. However, to test your hardware and kernel use the following command to create a 4.3GB file on your system.

dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/myhugefile bs=1M count=4300

If that works then in the "Burn" dialog, switch to the "Filesystem" page, press the "Custom" button in the "File System" tab, in the "File System Settings" tree, select "Level 3" for "ISO9660 Settings | ISO Level".

I've had this problem before with K3b when it just wouldn't recognize or burn a disc.

A strange workaround I discovered was to put in a good DVD or CD and let the computer mount and read it. Browse it to make sure.

Then eject the CD/DVD and try K3b again.

I just took a 4.1Gig folder that contaned 12 -350 or so Mib .AVI's and durned it as a data DVD no problem?

I onley had the option to burn at 2.50x or 4x and I chose 2.50x............in the

that GreyGeek spoke of I was at level 2 and on the top of that dialog box I onley have

generate rock ridge extentions.....checked
generate joyliet extentions.......checked
generate UDF structur......NOT checked

so I dont know mine is working OK.............
