    Help w KDE4.3 Multiple Desktops

    In the release announcement:
    http://kde.org/announcements/4.3/
it is claimed that one can set different backgrounds and different widgets for each desktop. I was unable to find out how?

    Can someone "illuminate" me?

    Million thanks

Click the Cashew, Zoom Out. Click Configure Plasma and pick Different Activity for each Desktop. Add an activity for each desktop, set the background and widgets. Zoom In when you are done.

      Thank you.
      Kind-of buggy. But it's promising...

You're welcome. What kind of problems are you experiencing? I only run into trouble with my dual monitor setup. I can configure the wallpapers and widgets pretty easily with one monitor but it doesn't work too well with dual monitors. I have trouble targeting activities and desktops to a specific display and the resolutions of my monitors are very different. As you said, progress in the right direction.

Re: Help w KDE4.3 Multiple Desktops

I have 2 computers w kde 4.3. One has an Nvidia card the other is an HP laptop w an intel card. On the Nvidia one I use the proprietary driver.
Both units behaved rather funny. On the Nvidia unit I even had situations when the cashew was gone and instead of a background I was getting a split image.with white portion in between pictures.
And of course, I had crashes of the Plasma.

I got it going now but I found that if I tinker too much with it it messes up completely and I have to restart KDE. Maybe I don't know what I'm doing...

Did not try multiple monitors. I was using such setup earlier this year with KDE 3.5 and a Sympodium tablet and I was happy.

Re: Help w KDE4.3 Multiple Desktops

My setup is similar to your HP laptop but I don't get the funny screen behavior. I'm running a T61 with an Intel 965 and an optimized configuration with a 2.6.30 kernel and KDE 4.3. I run Compiz as my window manager instead of Kwin. I have not tested with Kwin as my window manager. I have two different backgrounds on my dual monitor setup. When I try fiddling with it by adding Activities and using the Activity per desktop behavior it gets impossible to control. Either it's buggy or I have not figured it out yet. :P
