Fire fox- thunderbird- synaptic crashes as soon as I mouse click on anything.

I've installed the last couple of updates over the last 2 days on Jaunty and now I have crashes.
Fire fox opens but as soon as I use my mouse to select something it crashes.
I opened it in konsole and it crashed but I managed to get this error report

    "defaultusers@Kubuntu9:~$ firefox
    firefox: /build/buildd/cairo-1.8.6/src/cairo-surface.c:861: cairo_surface_set_device_offset: Assertion `status == CAIRO_STATUS_SUCCESS' failed.
    Aborted
    defaultusers@Kubuntu9:~$"

    and

With Thunderbird via Konsole I got this error

    "defaultusers@Kubuntu9:~$ thunderbird
    Illegal instruction
    defaultusers@Kubuntu9:~$"

    and synaptic gave this

    "defaultusers@Kubuntu9:~$ synaptic
    Illegal instruction
    defaultusers@Kubuntu9:~$"
    tried as root
    got this
    "defaultusers@Kubuntu9:~$ sudo synaptic
    [sudo] password for defaultusers:
    Illegal instruction
    defaultusers@Kubuntu9:~$"
    Also got this error
    "defaultusers@Kubuntu9:~$ firefox
    Segmentation fault"

    Any ideas please?

those are all GTK apps... Do you have other GTK apps installed on your system (gedit, pidgin), and are those working?
    # make install --not-war

No don't have pidgin or Gedit.
I've run firefox and thunderbird , synapatic for a while without problems.
I did install a deb package a couple of days ago named 'Bonager" a program that allows me to schedule a system check in advance to the default check after "x" amounts of boots. It installed a few dependencies which were GTK
I now cannot uninstall the damn thing. ( my fault for not using the repos I suppose >)
Uninstalling it via synaptic gave this error "E: bonager: subprocess pre-removal script returned error exit status 1"

In konsole it gave this error
"(Reading database ... 152470 files and directories currently installed.)
      Removing bonager ...
update-rc.d: /etc/init.d/bonager exists during rc.d purge (use -f to force)
      dpkg: error processing bonager (--purge):
subprocess pre-removal script returned error exit status 1
update-rc.d: warning: /etc/init.d/bonager missing LSB information
      update-rc.d: see <http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts>
System startup links for /etc/init.d/bonager already exist.
      Errors were encountered while processing:

I realize this post is dated, but I have been experiencing the same problem, but I have not installed anything except software updates through kde control module or synaptic. The behavior almost feels like a virus! did this thread ever get resolved?
