    Upgrade to KDE 4.3 problem

Today I (early morning) I did dist-upgrade. I was using KDE 4.3 rc3. Upgrade finished without a problem, but after a reboot, all I get after logging in is a black screen and the mouse cursor. I did two more dist-upgrades today getting new packages every time, but the problem still persists. Last upgrade I did was minutes ago.

later I checked kubuntu.org and saw that I needed another ppa for this upgrade. But now when I wanted to add it, the notification is changed, and only mentions the "backports" repository.

How can I fix this? All suggestions are welcome.

Re: Upgrade to KDE 4.3 problem

I added "deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/staging/ubuntu jaunty main" to my sources.list, got some packages but no luck.

Still black screen and the mouse pointer. alt+tab brings up "No windows" message. alt+F2, ctrl+esc,... don't do anything. All I can do is drop to console with ctrl+alt+F1.

I had the same problem and seem to be back to normal:

          SOLVED!!!
          Code:
          sudo apt-get install -reinstall kde-core
Didn't work (something like r from "reinstal" no known..).
          But:
          Code:
          sudo apt-get install kde-core
          did the trick.

I had to reinstall (kdepim), but so far so good.

          Thank you all!

Re: Upgrade to KDE 4.3 problem

sudo apt-get install -reinstall kde-core was on the right track.

I had to use "sudo apt-get install --reinstall kde-core"

and now I am back up and on-line.

Thanks for figuring this out Blaze!

Credit should go to Teunis. It was his post that had the solution.
