cant install all updates

I have 6 updates that are blocked kubuntu is installed as a dual boot with linux mint 7 would this be any thing to do with it

As a general rule, it is better to use the dist-upgrade rather than just upgrade.

General remark: Blocked updates usualy happen with a new kernel version and maybe have sense. If someone has by himself compiled drivers, they stay with an old version of the kernel and need to be recompiled. If someone forces blocked updates, can be surprised, for example, that a webcam in Skype doesn't work any more, like I was.

I presently have 4 blocked updates all linked to the kernel. As long as they persist the small icon advising that updates are available is useless.

Perhaps the author of these updates will be good enough to remove them or make them useable.

They are useable. Try

man apt-get

or

man aptitude

to start learning how your new system operates.

apt-get requires root.
I was hoping to use the tools presented to me when the installation was loaded and as explained earlier these are found wanting.

The solution that I elected to use was to load Synaptic and carry out the updates from there. This worked.
At all stages of the operation the system coped with the 'root' requirements.

Should I report this operational difficulty as a bug?
