syntax error everytime i run terminal

hi, i'm new to kubuntu. i'm running 9.04. everytime i run konsole i get an error msg up the top which says:

here is the contents of baschrc. i've highlighted in bold the line its complaining about.

I'm not an expert at shell scripts, so this might not be the answer, but your indentation seems out. My .bashrc is indented as follows:

if [ -n "$force_color_prompt" ]; then
if [ -x /usr/bin/tput ] && tput setaf 1 >&/dev/null; then
# We have color support; assume it's compliant with Ecma-48
# (ISO/IEC-6429). (Lack of such support is extremely rare, and such
# a case would tend to support setf rather than setaf.)
color_prompt=yes
else
color_prompt=
fi
fi

Your two 'color_prompt' lines are over the the left of the 'else'. Has something happened to mess up the carriage returns around those lines? Perhaps check they're formatted exactly as mine is, with proper end-of-lines etc.?

yeh my bashrc is indexed correctly. i forgot to fix it when i pasted it into the post.
this is how it is.

Seems there is a comment character missing

 append to the history file, don't overwrite it
shopt -s histappend
