Plasma doesn't run, after latest update

    Hello,

I've been running Kubuntu for quite a while now, updating it each time there are available updates. It is not the first time I note some problem after an update, but this time Plasma doesn't even want to load and I basically cannot use my Kubuntu system.

The strange thing is that this isn't restricted to the Kubuntu installed locally on my laptop, but also to the one I have an an external HDD. That is strange, in fact I'm getting similar graphic problems on my external HDD and I cannot login regularly to my Kubuntu on that system as well.

Is there a way I can fix this, or shall I have to download the Kubuntu ISO and install the system again from scratch (luckily, I do have backups of my data).

    Best Regards,
    Ederico.

By the way, I'm running 9.04, and as I said I regularly update once I notice there is an available update notified in the system tray.

So you're able to login okay? Does the krunner work (Alt-F2)? What happens if you start the krunner and type "plasma-desktop"?

Fwiw, I ran added the backport resource to apt for KDE 4.3, and performed the update on my test machine (an HP notebook). The update bombs out on me every single time, and blows up Plasma in the process so that I end up having to reinstall Kubuntu 9.04 from scratch.
