    how to recover from CTRL+ALT+F1

    Hi,

sometimes my plasma hangs, the only think I can do is to type CTRL+ALT+F1 and reboot the PC.

Is there a *smarter* way to recover from such kind of hangs?, can I only restart the graphic interface without rebooting?

    Thanks in advance,
    g.

    Yes, you can use [ctrl][alt][backspace]

But first you need to enable this:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install dontzap
    sudo dontzap --disable
You may Google "ubuntu dontZap" for more. Note that disabling notZap is enabling "Zap" (restarting X with that sequence).

If only the Plasma is hanging:

Press ALt + F2, start the Konsole with the command: konsole

      Stop the plasma (konsole):
      Code:
      kquitapp plasma
      Restart the plasma:
      Code:
      plasma
