Is there an alternative to hard shutdown in Rescue Mode?

Last night to fix a problem I had to boot into rescue mode and download some packages.

I had problems with the download for some reason as each attempt resulted in a package stopping download at between 80-98%. Shutting down and rebooting and trying again would then result in a successful download of that package but then the very same thing would happen on the next one etc. etc. So I had to reboot on multiple occasions before I could download all the packages.

I could not figure out how to get back from a stalled rescue mode download, other than the off buttin and reboot. Is there a key combination that would enable me to get back from there to the command prompt please?

    Thanks

    Edit:
you can probably ignore this suggestion, as it will re-boot the system.

    Maybe holding down <Ctrl> + <Alt> then pressing in turn <Print Screen> r s e i u b (while still holding down <Ctrl> + <Alt>) would get out of it.

If it doesn't work first time, try again, holding the <Print Screen> r s e i u b keys down for a couple of seconds or so....

Thanks for that - Certainly worth thinking about as a reboot must be less destructive than the off button.

        Did you try Ctrl+C?

it's a shell shortcut to stop the active process and return to the command prompt.

Having been brought up on a GUI I had assumed that combination did something quite different

Sounds like that might well be the answer. Will have a play tonight when I get home. Thanks

Yup...that's why konsole uses different shortcuts for copypasting

If you are in rescue mode, that is booted from the grub menu to get to the rescue console , ctrl-c stops whatever program is running.

typing 'exit' after that will bring you back to the rescue console if you want to use other options or to continue booting

I tried it in an ordinary terminal last night - worked of course. Hopefully I'll never need to use it again in rescue mode but if I do.....
