    No Directx for Guild Wars

Finally got the drivers for Nvidia to work and Chromium will play now but Guild Wars won't. It says I don't have Directx 8 installed. The install is from my Suse build and it worked fine there.

    Nvidia go7300 256MB VRAM
    Using 173.x nvidia driver.
I had 180.x installed and it complained so I downgraded.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

    you are using wine, no?

you may google for: "install directx wine ubuntu"

Crossover for Linux does give a very easy way to install direct-x. There is a free trial version, that's an option (and then you'd buy it if you like it).

Yes wine. I'll give Crossover a look. I didn't see PlayonLinux in the repos. Could also try Cedega but was hoping for a wine fix.

      UPDATE:

Crossover wants a bottle. Created one, not sure how to tweak anything inside it and it isn't happy.

Downloading Directx now. Will try installing that and see if it works.

NEWER UPDATE: installing Directx didn't work. It's still giving me the following error: "Unable to initialize 3D output. Please verify that you have installed Diretx 8 and an updated video driver."

I know 3D works because Chromium plays and it would without 3D working (or at least that's always been a good test with Suse builds).

      Any other ideas?
