<SOLVED> how to force Dolphin to display in "detail" view?

I HATE icons. A page full of icons is about the most worthless thing I can imagine. I ALWAYS want a detail listing, so I can actually have useful information to work with in a file list. Now...how can I get Dolphin to stop defaulting to an icon display (GRRRRR!)?

Right now I'm having to reset the default manually every time I visit a subdir I haven't been to yet. It's ridiculous.

How can I get Dolphin to just do it right by default? There must be a way, but I cannot find it.

    Any ideas

    Hi Tom,

You must be a 'detail' person, like me. I just opened Dolphin on my home folder and its the detail view. I can't remember how I did it.

It may be in Settings > Configure Dolphin > View modes

Select Remember view properties for each folder

Under General, I have a few other options such as show delete, show copy to and move to.

    HTH.

Um. That merely forces memory of EACH folder's settings, AFTER you set them. The very situation I'm trying to get out of.

There is another setting, which I had somehow failed to see until now:

Settings > Configure Dolphin > View Modes > View Properties > Use common view properties for all folders.

      Bingo. That's the ticket.

Glad you found it. Now its documented for all.

It's amazing how often explaining something to someone else helps you to see the solution.

Thanks. That got it for me. I agree, why did anyone ever even think of a thumbnail or an icon view? Thought they'd only ever have about 5 or 10 files to look at?
