    Suspend and hibernate both crash

I have never been able to get either suspend-to-disk or suspend-to-ram to work.
In the case of suspend-to-ram, they system behaves like it is suspending, but then comes back on immediately, in a crashed state -- messed up display, unresponsive to keyboard, requires unplugging to get out of it. Restarting initiates a normal reboot.
In the case of suspend-to-disk, the system again acts like it is shutting down, and then goes into a crash state with some kind of log dump on the screen, again requiring unplugging to get out of it.
I do not leave the computer on unattended, so this means I am rebooting several times a day. This is a 64-bit system which does use the proprietary NVIDIA drivers (which I suppose could be a problem).
Any suggestions where to start working on this, given that attempting to suspend produces a crash from which unplugging (literally) is the only exit?

How big is your swap partition? Larger than your RAM?
