Suddenly I can no longer back up files to an external hard drive or pen drive because these files suddenly all belong to root. I can copy, paste or edit files in my home directory, but can no longer do this on my pen drives or external drive. I've tried using kdesudo dolphin and kdesudo konqueror, but cannot copy over any of these files with the updated files from my home directory. Help!

Hmm... update: Permissions returned after I restarted my computer. Still not sure why this happened, or if I can expect it to recur.~George
