There is also the blacklisting to load modules _not_ to load, but all of this is automagically worked out by Kubuntu for you (and you only mess around in the very odd bug fix)

Would it be advisable to modprobe somemoduleordriver in the rc.local file ( thats what i did for my wireless driver ) or better to put it in modules? pros and cons? performance issues?

I think modules. Because it is intended exactly for that purpose. And there might be some logic somewhere (kernel level?) reading that file at the right time, maybe checking for modules interdependencies, etc. Using rc.local is clearly a hack, I wouldn't recommend it ...
