I'm running 4.2.95 (4.3 RC1), on an Athlon XP 3200+ system, 1 Gb Ram (400 FSB dual channel).
Not the latest and greatest by any means, as it's about 5 years old.
KDE is pretty fast on my system.
What video card do you have?
I have an Nvida 7900gs (512 Mb), AGP 8x, which no doubt helps.Comment

In my case, 4.2.* just fine even on the Celeron 900Mhz of my eeepc 701. Except for cold start login, which is really slow (like 50 seconds).
BTW, it is incredibly responsive on my Phenom X3 oc'ed @ 2.6Mhz / DDR2 900Mhz (and cold login time is decent, about 15 seconds).
What's your cold-start (i.e. after boot) login time roughly speaking? Thanks!Comment
