Kopete no longer connecting to Yahoo IM

YIM recently changed its logon protocols. Pidgin has since updated and is now compatible with the new protocol. Does anyone know if Kopete is also, and if so, what do I need to do to update to the latest version?

My understanding is that Kopete should update automatically through the repository, but I've yet to get any updates. Ideas?

Have you checked Kopete's main project page yet? I had to go directly to Pidgin's to get the latest update to solve this problem, as between releases Canonical/*buntu doesn't do any updates to programs that aren't specifically patching security holes in the programs themselves, unless you're running the current pre-release. The Pidgin project was kind enough to set up a repository to allow people to have access to the most recent version of Pidgin automatically, hopefully someone has done the same with Kopete?

I was at http://kopete.kde.org/ but haven't been able to dig up anything yet. I'll just keep looking...

Alternatively, you could give Pidgin a go, at least until you find out that Kopete is working with yahoo again. Here's the page I found that allowed me to add it to my repositories.

Thanks, I like Pidgin as well as Kopete, though I prefer Kopete. I actually installed Pidgin last night but I've been kind of back-and-forth on it. It's really sheisty of Yahoo to change the login protocol just to force people to use their proprietary IM service.

Thanks, I like Pidgin as well as Kopete, though I prefer Kopete. I actually installed Pidgin last night but I've been kind of back-and-forth on it. It's really sheisty of Yahoo to change the login protocol just to force people to use their proprietary IM service.

From what I read about it, it was less about forcing people to upgrade to their own client, and more about making it easier to secure communications between the client and the server. Apparently the old method that was being used required a bit of running around the bush to encrypt stuff that this new system simplified while apparently keeping things as secure as before. I'm not 100% sure of the details, but that's what I took away from the stuff I read when I started looking to see why yahoo hadn't been connecting for a few days straight at that point.
