    Key Delay with Kmail

Sinse I love KDE4.2 on my laptop I istalled Kubuntu 9.04 on my Dads Laptop (IBM 512 Ram, 1,7GHZ).

Everything is going fine so far, but Kickoff takes some seconds to start, but that is not the big problem.

When I open Kmail and try to type a mail, the letter appear with a big delay. Its like just one letter or two per second.

Sorry for my English! Can anyone help me out? Is it because of the hardware?

    Welcome to the party

    My guess would be yes.

500mb ram is a bit small in this day and age.
I would suggest upgrading to 1gig ram if you can.

Your cpu is also a bit old but it should do alright.

You might also have a look at xubuntu.

It is nice and good on the older machines.

1gig is always better though for either.

Do you have visual effects turned on? I have a Core2Duo with 4GB of RAM and an Intel card and when I activate the visual effects in KDE or GNOME I get a huge performance drop in some applications while writing and scrolling.
