    iptables question (SOLVED)

Is iptables started when I log in, or does it have to be started using "firestarter" for example??
Also does iptables do anything as is, or do I have to configure it? What should be in it? Sorry for so many questions, but I would very much like to know.

    In your Konsole
    Code:
    man iptables
    will get you started.

Only after using some utility or command to enable it will there be an effect on the ports.

There are few reasons to use the firewall on a regular desktop/ laptop install as there is no service that could be susceptible to attack.
The main reason to use it would be when you have installed and enabled services like ssh or Apache.

Personally I use GuardDog, I find it pretty much self explanatory.
