usb-creator error -- anyone else?

Kubuntu 9.04 fully updated as of today.

Here's what I get when I try to run usb-creator:

dibl@jaunty:~$ usb-creator
Traceback (most recent call last):
 File "/usr/bin/usb-creator", line 21, in <module>
  from usbcreator.gtk_frontend import GtkFrontend
 File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/usbcreator/gtk_frontend.py", line 25, in <module>
  import gnomevfs
ImportError: No module named gnomevfs

Anyone else see this? Anyone got the hot fix?

How did you install usb-creator? This should be a dependency in the .deb, it seems like a bug, no? You may want to send a heads-up to the package mantainers. I am sure this python package is installed by default in (G)Ubuntu

usb-creator doesn't run for me either. Can anyone tell me how to get it going?

As I recall, it is the python-gtk2 package (and whatever its dependencies may be) that you need to install, then run usb-creator and see if it runs error free.

Here's another take on the problem of a persistent KB 9x flash drive:

It DOES require access to a Window OS, but for some of us that's no issue. Haven't tried it yet, but will, shortly.

and had great success, after I fixed the problem with python. That 8GB USB stick still boots Linux just fine, and doubles as casual file storage from Windows or Linux boxes.

Well. Nuts. For an amateur like me, working my way through several threads, some of which have tens, if not hundreds, of posts, to get a working persistent KB 9.04 flash drive is simply infuriating. THIS IS WHY WIKIS WERE INVENTED. I really don't have time for this mess. (Yeah, I'm a bit frustrated.)

As to packages: installing the python-gtk2 package on my fully updated KB 9/04 OS did NOT cause usb-creator to run. Installing python-gnome2 on top of that did. I do NOT know if python-gtk2 is really needed, but having it installed did not hurt.

I will shortly post a HOW TO on this, for those who want to get across the goal line without plowing through all the brambles I've had to. Jeez. Gotta try to make my small contribution.
