    gmail problem

    Hi all,
I've a problem with Gmail for three days now. I can't load the gmail web page properly or at all - I've tried all the things they suggest at Gmail help center; I've tried using both Opera and Firefox - either I can't ever load the page or chat isn't loading...
    I don't know what's going on...
I can only load the page in HTML view (very basic) in Firefox and even then some features don't work (e.g. I can't delete mails).
I've had these problems only on Linux (Kubuntu 9.04) - on Windows Gmail's running perfectly
If anybody has any idea what's going on - please help!

    Re: gmail problem

    Hard to say.

I have a gmail account and I have no problem with FireFox on Kubuntu 9.04 with any version of KDE4 I've tried.

This morning I was on gmail with my KDE4.2.4 with no problems.

Also this morning, I help my sister's husband switch from Windows to Kubuntu via the phone and he had no problems with FireFox on his new gmail account with KDE4.2.2.

BTW, Windows install -1, Linux installs + 1

Same here, no problems. I do use https (via the gmail settings, or just type it in).

and my gmail works fine in Kmail and Evoluion !!!

now the gmail chat window takes a wile to load on my old box (15-30 seconds)but it dose load.

perhaps you should use apt-get to make shure your system's up to date and no broken dependencys.

I am always using https, so that's not the cause :/

See - I've got my system up to date; I even suppose the problem appeared after last update... :/

ad. 1) yeah, I haven't try that yet

ad. 2) chrome for linux doesn't work for me either :/

                EDIT:
I've just re-installed everything connected with firefox - the problem still persists...
It's weird, because Opera & Firefox won't even load the HTML version of Gmail properly while Konqueror does it (although I can't send emails) :/
_AND_ On Windows, on the same machine, I am able to freely use Gmail!
                It's kind of frustrating...

You could try deleting your hidden .Mozilla folder and then re-open Firefox and let it build a new one. I doubt it will help but you could try. That's a very odd problem. You sure you don't have some firewall blocking certain apps?

As I wrote earlier, I've already tried removing everything connected with Firefox (including the .mozilla catalogue) - didn't help
I didn't install any firewalls on my Kubuntu... I've even tried editing
                    /etc/hosts.allow
                    and adding lines like
                    ALL: .google.com
                    (and others for gmail).
                    Still - no progress

This is a very odd problem, so I thank you all the more for trying to help me

                      Re: gmail problem

I disabled IPv6 in ff... that is the only extra special tweak that I can think of...

                      about:config
type ipv6 in the filter field
high-light network.dns.disableIPv6 by right-clicking it, and change the value from false to true

No real reason to think that would fix your problem, but heck it looks like time to "try anything".

Edit: I just thought to check your profile and noticed you are in Poland... I don't know anything about your politics or ISPs, but perhaps you should check your regular news sources to see if anything weird is going on with ISPs blocking access to certain sites... Duh. You said it works in Windows. Nevermind.

Thanks again but I've already tried that - that's not the problem :/

Oh. I do remember that on Windows, trying to use hotmail with firefox was a problem because ubuntu brands firefox a little weird in the useragent. Hmmmm.... maybe it is something similar? Are you using true gmail or the googlemail? Gosh I just don't know. Would love to help you out, but really don't have a clue. Just truly guessing now.

I think it was general.useragent.vendorComment that I just blanked out to get hotmail to work.

                            I don't quite understand...
I've been typing "gmail.com" to get into my mail but now (since the problem started) I've tried also "https://mail.google.com/mail" (and other addresses also) - there's no difference however.

I thought in some places in Europe Google couldn't use "gmail", it had to be "googlemail" or whatever. Maybe it was just Germany though.

I was just trying to get more info out in the open regarding your problem... perhaps it is still a regional issue and not a true firefox issue. Sorry I'm not being to helpful.
