    Xvidcap no audio?

Okay, I have been looking for a software solution for Kubuntu which can record my desktop with sound.

In Windows Camstudio performs pretty well. I thought this should be a piece of cake in Kubuntu.

I am not satisfied with Recordmydesktop because of the clipping audio. I have tried different quality and compression settings.
Xvidcap suprised me very much with it's very good video performance. The only thing is the audio, it doesn't work?

    Xvidcap message:
    xvidcap --audio yes
Audio support not present in this binary.
    Usage: xvidcap, ver 1.1.7, (c) rasca, berlin 1997,98,99, khb (c) 2003 - 07
I can't compile xvidcap from source because of different strange dependencies.

I am running 64 bit and think it could be the problem.

I will try to repartition my drive and install Kubuntu 8.04 32 bit and test Xvidcap from there.

    Any thoughts?

    Re: Xvidcap no audio?

Hmm in 32 bit Kubuntu 8.04 xvidcap gives me a different error:
    /usr/bin/xvidcap
    [mpeg4 @ 0xb770f9a8]removing common factors from framerate
    pixel format conversion not handled
    xtoffmpeg.c xvc_ffmpeg_save_frame(): error converting or resampling frame: context 0x8324010, iwidth 192, iheight 144, owidth 192, oheight 144, inpfmt 23 opfmt 0

I even tried to compile from svn which resulted in no multi frame recording.

So I am back to scratch. I have read somewhere that an upgrade to 8.10 could help. I will try an upgrade.

Anyone with any hints for me? :P

Okay before I install severeal systems on different machines, can anyone report the best version of Kubuntu to get a desktop recording tool working smoothly? I am aming for xvidcap because it's video looks cool in full screen.

      32 vs 64 bit

      Hardy, Intrepid or Jaunty?

I did not have much luck with 32 bit hardy and 64 bit jaunty...

      Thanks.

        Re: Xvidcap no audio?

I have a fresh install of Kubuntu Jaunty.
        After giving the following command:
xvidcap --audio yes --audio_in /dev/dsp , the following message appears:
Audio support not present in this binary
Perhaps you can compile xvidcap with audio support but this seems to be difficult.
There are a number of posts regarding this subject. Google to see them.

          Hey, thanks for the feedback.

I have asked google, but it does not seem to give me the right answer

At the moment I am trying to tweak recordmydesktop without much luck...

Hi, yes I have tried recordmydesktop but the audio quality was pretty bad (clipping etc.).

I have now installed 32 bit Jaunty and installed the intrepid deb of xvidcap from http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...ckage_id=83441 . It works very well. But I'm still missing a 64 bit version of xvidcap.. any hints?

                  Thanks.
