Copy Corrupted + How to disable Alt + Left mouse click = move? - WoW under Linux

    Hi guys,

I've been trying to launch "World of Warcraft" under Kubuntu 9.04 without succeeding for few days.

What I did is copy the entire folder from the Windows partition (2nd Partition) "FAT32" to the Linux Home directory. I've also tried to copy it to my external hard drive.

In both cases, when I run the game it gives error *******138 & gives a file corrupted error.
Even on my Laptop running Windows after copying the files from the external to the laptop under Windows, gives the same.

So my cousin suggested I'd copy the files under Windows to the external drive then copy it to the laptop.

That did work & I could run WoW from the laptop.
I did try wine to run WoW from the external drive & succeeded.

Conclusion: There seems to be a problem with Kubuntu/KDE copying large files I guess. The error appeared when the 17Gb of data were copied under Linux but not When copied under Windows.

    Note:
I have two internal drives & one external.
1 for Windows with two partitions "NTFS" & "FAT32"
    2 Linux "SWAP" "System" & "home" (EXT4)
    3 WD FAT32 1Tb

The corruption always appeared either copying from the internal "FAT32" to internal "EXT4""home" or internal "FAT32" to external "FAT32" (Under Kubuntu 9.04)

After taking my cousins advice & copying under Windows Internal "FAT32" to External "FAT32".

Then copying from External "FAT32" to internal "EXT4" (home) didn't give any data corruption & it worked.

    Second problem:
After configuring wine & the config.wtf file for WoW to work.
I had to disable the keyboard repeat functionality because the character seems to walk in stuttering way.

Now if any of you plays the game, to cast a spell on yourself is to hold the "Alt" key then click the spell or the number on your keyboard for that spell.

What happens when you click "Alt" & be within a window in KDE is that you move that windows under the cursor.
So if you have desktop effects enabled, you can actually see the desktop behind the windows because of the fading effect.
(Note: The Alt + Left mouse click still works after disabling Desktop effects but you dont see the desktop because no desktop effects are running)

I've been into the settings for a while trying to disable this but cannot fine it .
Under the Global Keyboard Shortcuts I've found that for Kwin --> Move Window .. but that's not activated by default & when there is a key combination it moves the window directly.

Nothing mentioning the mouse as well.

    Any idea?

    First problem:

I suggest you install the game again using Wine. The installer probably writes stuff to the registry which you'll be missing if you just copy files over. In any case Fat32 i/o shouldn't be a problem on Linux, so can't really help with that. Are you sure it's Fat32 and not NTFS? NTFS read/write operations on linux are pretty much at your own risk.

    Second problem:

    Open KDE Control.
    -> Window Behaviour
    -> Window Actions
-> Modifier Key + Left button change to "Nothing"

      Thanks for your reply.
As for the 1st problem I got a work around.
It's not a registry issue at all, I reverted back to 8.04 for stability, I guess I'll be using 10.4 when released, that'll probably be the safest switch since it'll be an LTS version.

In 8.04 I also tried to run the game from the Windows partition (FAT32 I'm sure), it resulted in the same error, which is strange since there is no file copying in the process.

I did try to copy it using 8.04 from Windows partition to Linux partition & got the same error when I ran the game.

I booted into Window, copied it to my external hard drive, then booted back to Linux & copied it back from the external to the Linux partition & it worked!

      Sounds insane? It does!
I have no idea whats causing the problem & dunno if I shall open a thread about it.
Anyways, that's not really a solution so I didn't mark solved.

Thanks for the help anyways ; )
