Software Sources not working

    Software Sources not working

    Hi all.

    I am presently getting errors when updating the Package Information.

    When I update the package lists: it runs through, gives some informational errors and then tells me that I have no updates.

    The error lines typically look like this:
    http://ppa.launchpad.net/Jaunty main Translation-en AU: FAILED
    http://archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-security/main Translation-en AU: FAILED

    Some lines work ok. Most do not.

    No known changes have been made to mess things up.

    This happens in both Synaptic & Adept so it does not appear to be package specific.
    I have also changed my sources to the main Ubuntu server in case my local Australian (AU) server was playing up.

    My software sources come from the following repos:
    Jaunty DVD
    http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu
    http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu

    Note: I added in the ppa.launchpad.net source so that I could get the KDE 4.2.3 Update for Jaunty.
    This was done when it first came out (at least several weeks ago) so it should not be the cause?

    My feeling is that its something to do with the Australian translation files (AU)...

    Any ideas folks?

    PS If anyone can tell me where the log files exist for these programs I can list them as well.

    While Kubuntu and other distros give many choices for countries, languages and version of English in particular, a look at the packages site: http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/la...ranslations-en
    reveals English for Kubuntu only comes in US, GB, ZA (USA, Great Britain and South Africa) which means Australia, Canada, Singapore and all of the other English speaking countries don't yet have the dictionary.

    You can look at your /etc/apt/sources.list and edit that or use a Graphic front-end such as Synaptic.

    HP Compaq nc6400, 2Gi, 100Gi, ATI x1300 with 512M

      Thanks for your reply.

      Actually I have not done anything to change the Language options in KDE or the software management programs lately.

      I sussed out my sources and it does not seem to be the problem.

      So I looked at my KDE settings in System settings, specifically the Regional & Language settings.
      Here I changed my "system language" to EN-GB, reloaded KDE and then reloaded my package lists using apt-get.

      Some of the same problems seem to occur (listed below). So it does not seem to be a language setting per se.
      - The first errors are due to the dvd not being in the drive (ok).
      - The other errors are flagged as "ign" by apt-get.

      I am presuming that this is not normal as I have not seen this error before.
