    [Resolved] FIREFOX on kubuntu 9.04

    Hi folk,
from many days I'm tray to configure firefox but it doesn't work, I use the same configuration of Konquereror that works. I use the direct internet connection (no proxy) and the home page "www.google.it". The firefox displayed error when I click firefox icon is:

    Address Not Found
Firefox can't find the server at www.google.it
    etc..etc..

I have the same error for each home page .

Do you have any suggestions ??

        Wired or wireless networking?

        What does
        Code:
        sudo ifconfig
        output?

        What does
        Code:
        ping [url]www.google.com[/url]
        output?

            Re: FIREFOX on kubuntu 9.04

OK, so it appears your network is working fine.

You say you spent days "configuring" Firefox -- what were you doing? I just "install" Firefox and it works -- I don't know what you would need to "configure" to have basic browsing work. Why don't you export your bookmarks to save them, and then remove firefox with the --purge option

            Code:
            sudo apt-get remove --purge firefox
and then install it fresh? See if you can do simple browsing with no special configuration -- try different sites. There could be some server issue with the one that you use for the home page -- try others.

I also have installed firefox fresh after purging but the problem persists . I haven't done any configuration of firefox now (no proxy) .

              any ideas ?

                Very stupid question:
                how did you install FF?

Was it from the repos or Mozilla?

                      Re: FIREFOX on kubuntu 9.04

Try disabling IPv6, as instructed down this page:

                      http://kb.mozillazine.org/Error_loading_any_website

close and restart Firefox afterward, and see if you have better luck.

                        Re: FIREFOX on kubuntu 9.04

I suggest before doing anything drastic, internet issues can be often resolved with a simple power cycle, either on your end or at the ISP's end (or both).

                        1) Unplug your modem (switch off, if DSL) and unplug the router.
                        2) After a minute or so, plug in just the modem; wait for all the lights to become solid ("Power, Send, Receive, Online" for cable; "Power, Ethernet, DSL/Internet" for DSL).
                        3) Once you're sure all the normal lights are solid, plug in the router.
                        4) Check your connection. If it still isn't working, try restarting the computer, or calling your ISP to find out why the internet's not working.

That's all I got for now lol. Hope this works!

if all else fails, delete the firefox config file (~/.mozilla), and try to start firefox.

                            I concur.

If konqi can connect there is nothing wrong with the modem router.
and if you installed from the repos there should be nothing wrong there.

Ipv6 could be the culprit as well.

the problem was IPv6, I disabled it on the configuration file "about:config" of firefox and at last firefox worked.

                              thanks everybody and dibl
