opening kate within another application

If I open kate as an external editor from another application such as perforce. I get the following error

/usr/bin/kate: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libQtSql.so.4: undefined symbol: _ZN14QObjectPrivate15checkWindowRoleEv

and my text file doesn't open. This is seriously broken. Any workarounds ?
or any updated libraries available ?
