vmware on ubuntu 9.04 is driving me to insanity

i am running vmware server 2 on ubuntu 9.04 and it is driving me insane. first off as you may notice i am not using any capital letters, that is because vmware stole my modifier keys, when i press shift nothing happens. caps lock doesn't work or nothing but they work in the vm.

second off i cannot connect to a bridged network. i can connect to a host only which has some use, but i need a bridged.

finally the one that pisses me off the most is that when i try to access a folder in the guest it says access denied. and when i make a folder in the guest the host -ubutnu - does the same.

use a NAT network and RDP into the VM. Don't use the weakass firefox addon. I do this in 9.04 and dedicate one desktop to a fullscreen RDP session (use KRDC) and have zero problems with it.

For some reason, in 9.04 the vmnet part of vmware does not start correctly at boot time. Just restart it:

      Code:
      sudo /etc/init.d/vmware restart
Then start VMWare and you should have bridged networking.

Shift key problem -- hmmmmm. Try adding only this one line to the ~/.vmware/config file:

      xkeymap.nokeycodeMap=true

NAT or Bridged don't work. None of them.

Once I get this working on 9.04 I am never updating again, I was on 8.10 and everything was perfect updating to 9.04 was the biggest mistake of my life!

I use this website to create my VMX files. It is never let me down.

I don't think the problem is with the VMXes. I think it's with the VMWare service.

I restarted the service and NAT is working now but not bridged. What's the difference between the two? From what I see they operate the same.

I also cannot get sound in my VMs, same thing like the bridged network, I cannot "Connect" the device.

The difference between NAT and bridged:
NAT will create a subnet for your VMs inside your pc, all your VMs will appear to have your real pcs IP addy (to anything outside your real pc).
Bridged makes your VMs appear alongside your real pc on your home network.

Either way unless you're using DHCP on your guest machines you'll have to make sure you're giving them IP addys for the correct subnets.

Well NAT is what I want. But I think I always had then show up as one PC.
