I've been using Ubuntu for years now, but for the first time I switched to Kubuntu. Everyone kept telling me, it's going to run slow on your older computer, don't do it, global warming, blah blah blah. Well, the computer is quite old it was originally a windows 2000 machine. All I've done was throw a stick of 128Mb ram into it (poor people have poor ways!), which pushed me up to a whopping 384mb!! Yeah baby, this sucker is balls to the wall! Okay, and I threw in a cheapo Nvidia 6200, which is always pleasant to get working with my older non-SSE AMD Athlon. Getting things up and running was not hard with Kubuntu. My biggest issue was getting my computer to play nice with the home network. Everything is working, and believe it or not, even with full desktop effects turned on, I'm running faster than I did with Ubuntu Jaunty. I am liking Kubuntu and so is my puter. Computer is old, but I did buy a 22" Dell panel @ 1680x1050, which is nice!
Alright here's my question. During the splash screen, using the default splash, the black dialog disappears, reappears, disappears, reappears, a few times anyways. It loads into the desktop just fine, and everything. I'm sort of thinking perhaps it the desktop effects being loaded that is causing it, but I dunno. I did a search in the forums but I didn't turn up anything. Everything I saw was more or less a unusable system, etc, etc. This is not a real big deal, just wanted to try and fix it. If not, I can just turn off the splash screen. Any suggestions? Ideas?
