After upgrading to Jaunty I lose my maximize and minimize buttons after opening a window. It appears to go to full screen but I don't lose the panel. I seem to remember having this once before with Hardy and cannot remember what I did to solve it. any ideas people.

Tried that and almost had it. The buttons appear for ten seconds and then it they disappear .Comment

Do you have desktop effects turned on? If so, you could try to disable them also.Comment

No, that did not work either. I remember when I had the same problem with hardy I turned Compiz off and it worked but not this time. The buttons appear for ten seconds and then disappear. Like the screen goes straight to maximize.
Just been fiddling around and removed something called XScreensaver which seems to have cured the problem. Thanks everybody for your help on this one. It seems these kind of things, I think, are related to Xorg which I have major problems with in the past, even down to re-installoing once.Comment
