    Run command ALT F2 problem

    Hello

Since upgrading to JJ, I have not had the function to be able to get run command to work from--- press ALT + F2. it probably is something very simple to cure but so far has evaded me! I have searched the forums but not found the answer yet.
Anyone else has this problem? Where is the function menu to restore this keyboard shortcut?

    Thank you for any assistance.

ok. Maybe I have answered my own question here.
When I delete desktop effects ALT-F2 returns its default function. So that is solved.
Question is, how do you get the shortcut to work with desktop effects?

      Congratulations on troubleshooting that problem!

I think you have proven that it is related to your video display hardware and driver. I would search Ubuntu forums, and maybe use google, using your graphics hardware and "KDE 4" and see if you can find any hints about it.

        Thank you for that.

Having a read through various sites about the loss of shortcut, seems to be what you say.

Maybe I will do without effects for now :-)

Could it be a desktop effect shortcut is also set to alt-f2? Maybe a desktop effect shortcut is blocking the krunner.

Are you using Compiz? That can interfere with the function of Alt-F2. There is a workaround, though. Open up Compiz-Config Settings Manager (ccsm), and go to General > Actions. Next to Command Line 0, enter "krunner". Then go to the "Key Bindings" tab, and assign Alt-F2 to run command 0. That should fix it.

Thank you for your replies will take a look tomorrow and get it kicked. I def was the desktop effects that stopped it and maybe as said, the key function is hindered. Will take a gander over the compiz settings too when I load them back up.
              Thank you

What is your video card btw? Are you using the stock drivers that were installed with Kubuntu or did you install any separately?
