I'm presently running Ubuntu 9.04 on an iMac running OS 10.5.6 using
VirtualBox v2.2.2r46594. With this setup I am able to run compiz fusion
and can use all desktop effects without difficulty.
I followed the same method to install Kubuntu. The initial installation went
without problems and I was able to use the basic 800x600 screen just fine.
I installed the virtualbox additions (2.2.0_Beta2) as I did for ubuntu. After
I enter my username and password I see the splash screen with my HD icon,
then the screen goes dark and I'm back at the login screen. It bears mentioning
that I have the same behavior after installing KDE desktop on my ubuntu setup;
namely, if I select KDE as my session type, I'm shortly thrown back to the login
screen. Selecting GNOME puts me back in ubuntu as before.
Lastly, I have the identical problem after installing kubuntu in Parallels Desktop
4.0 for mac (Build 4.0.3540 (November 22, 2008)).
Any insight, hints or solutions would be greatly appreciated.
