    What's the difference between Ext3 & Ext4? I couldn't install EXT4

Just wondering what's the go with EXT4 over EXT3?
During the 64bit install of 9.04 it wouldn't partition to ext4, it gave me disk errors.
Yet to partition Ext3 went faultlessly.

Ext4 has just been finalized. Although it is officially 'stable', it is not the default for Ubuntu due to possible problems like the ones you're having. Ext4 is the successor to Ext3 and can address more memory and has a more efficient performance.

My advice would be to install Kubuntu on Ext3, but several persons have reported no problems with Ext4.

I installed Jaunty 64 bits on another partition so it was safe for me to test ext4. So far I have no problem to report, performances seem good. But the safest thing to do is to let important data on an ext3 partition.

Before I installed 9.04 Beta in late March, 64-bit, I used a Parted Magic Live CD to partition and formatted it to ext4, with no issues. Then I booted the 9.04 Alternate Install CD and used "manual partitioning" and set the mount points, but did not try to format. It installed happily and has been running fine since the Beta came out. If it's important to install on ext4 (like you're so curious you can't stand it ) then I would say try it the way I did it.
