kcontrol vs. system settings (for kde 3.5 remix)

There seem to be two different facilities for changing system settings: kcontrol and "System Settings". Most of the items in them are the same (with a different organization) but not all. An irksome example is that the ability to kill the bouncing cursor lives in kcontrol but not in System Settings.

Is there any coherent explanation of what goes in one and what goes in the other? Is the existence of both of them just a historical anomaly?

System Settings -> Desktop... Launch Feedback... Busy Cursor = No Busy Cursor (instead of bouncy).

In KDE3, the default tool was kcontrol, for many years. Kubuntu and other distros moved to system settings, though kcontrol was still present (they are both using the same applets, just displayed differently) The thinking was that kcontrol had too much stuff that was already present elsewhere, such as Konqueror's settings for example.

In KDE4, System Settings is it, kcontrol no longer exists.

I was wondering... is there any way to dissolve the "general"/"advanced" separation? I'd really rather have all of it visible at the same time. No biggie, of course.

In the KDE 3.5 remix, Launch Feedback isn't there. The Desktop categories are Background, Screen Saver, Behavior, and Multiple Desktops. A search on Cursor comes up empty.

Perhaps this is getting straightened out.

Oh, I'm sorry... I completely misunderstood your original post.
